Preparation for the Sacrament of Baptism may look a bit different at Our Lady of Grace than what you remember or have experienced at other Catholic churches. We spent many years seeing the graces of baptism fail to endure in young families. In response to this trend at our parish (and across the country), we have tried something new. We're now seeing the fruit of a process that takes its time, invites families into parish life, and welcomes young children into a Church that is eager for them to grow in love of Christ over the course of their entire lives. Our mission is to form a culture of enduring faith, and we believe this process encourages a lasting faith to be formed in our youngest children and their families.
There are three components of preparation for infant baptism at Our Lady of Grace:
Attend Baptismal Preparation Class. REGISTER BELOW to begin the baptismal preparation process by attending a class held on the last Tuesday of the month. This class would precede the Sacrament of Baptism by at least three months.
Meet with a Companion Couple. Each family seeking baptism will be assigned a Companion Couple with whom they will be welcomed into parish life by attending Mass together and gathering for a few meals.
Receive the Sacrament of Baptism. After concluding the baptismal class, finishing the gatherings with your Companion Couple, and completing relevant forms, you will be prepared for your child to be initiated into the Catholic Church through the Sacrament of Baptism!
If you are interested in having a child who is over the age of 7 baptized or are interested in joining the Catholic Church, you will most likely need to participate in the Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA). Please email [email protected].
