Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

A Unique Experience of Learning

Instead of a traditional classroom, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd takes place in an Atrium. The Atrium is an open space specifically designed so that every element of the room teaches about the Catholic faith in hands-on and passive ways. As students move about the Atrium environment, they encounter areas of focus such as the Life of the Church (including a model altar), Infancy Narratives, Parables, Paschal Mystery, Prayer, Practical Life, and more.

Multi-Age Levels

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is not divided into single-grade levels as is often seen in traditional educational settings. Instead, students are divided into multi-age groups called "levels." At Our Lady of Grace, the Levels of CGS will be as follows:


Each level of CGS has its own Atrium specific to the needs of its respective multi-age group of students. Rather than all students coming at one time, CGS sessions will be offered at a variety of times throughout the week so that students can utilize their level-appropriate Atrium.

Highly-Trained Catechists

Each session of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd will be led by catechists. Each catechist for CGS completes 90 hours of training per level. This deep commitment to training will lead to even more effective formation for our children. 

Catechists do not lecture within a CGS model. Instead, they direct and guide students to interact with the resources within the Atrium, gently showing students the steps to use and understand elements of the space.
